Tollermania’s Origin Story

The who, what, when, where and why.

Written by Daniel Barnhill, in honor of our beloved Diesel.

If you’ve stumbled onto this page and you’re wondering what exactly “Tollermania” is , here’s a brief explanation.

Diesel helping out around the DDR

Diesel came into my life in 2007, he was from Kare Kennels in Rusagonis New Brunswick, Canada. Diesel quickly became the love of my life, my adventure partner, and my heart dog. I lost Diesel on April 2, 2021 to pulmonary hypertension. I was completely devastated.

Over his lifetime, we often shared photos of our adventures and his antics on social media. After his passing, my only solace was writing about our adventures from his perspective. I found it was enjoyable to most, as a lot of people have encouraged me to write a book about our adventures. People have even messaged me telling me my boy is a legend. Growing up, I wanted my fame to be from racing motorcycles (or better yet, snowmobiles). I now realize that what most know me as is Diesel’s Dad, and I’m ok with that!

The greatest part of my healing has come from the support of wonderful people on various pages of social media. Yes, social media is a two headed dragon. It ends relationships, ends marriages, causes political and religious debates, is a platform for cyber bullying, but there are small groups of people who genuinely care about others, and I was fortunate to find them.

Someone casually mentioned one day that they would like to meet me and see the Diesel Dog Ranch, where most of our adventures began. Well, what started out as a small gathering and BBQ quickly escalated into a two-day international event. Money raised from the event will be split between the local animal shelter and Toller Rescue Inc.

The event is held in New Germany, Nova Scotia, Canada. New Germany is a small rural community, roughly 90 minutes from Halifax International Airport.

The Diesel Dog Ranch is a large plot of land where I built my cottage 15 years ago. It was initially called the little house in the hundred acre woods. It was my escape from city and it quickly became Diesel’s favourite place on earth. It’s been called the Diesel Dog Ranch ever since. If you’re a Yellowstone fan, you’ll be greatly disappointed with the DDR; there’s no cattle, no horses, no cowboys…just tranquility, fresh air, beautiful scenery, and forest to roam.

Currently with the help of others we are planning events, contests to engage Tollers, and their people. As events are formed, information will be shared on this website and on our Facebook page.
